Place, wait, open, pen
An egg on the boat does not hatch. The recorded sequence is five moves.
- Sail the stolen egg back to your base.
- Set it on an open plot pad. The countdown starts on that egg.
- Leave it until the egg reads ready. Several eggs can sit at once on separate clocks. One player opened a hatch while another egg still had 1 minute 50 seconds left.
- Open it. The pet appears beside the shell, and the per-second rate is shown on the hatch.
- Walk the pet into the pen yourself. The line from play is that opened pets do not go into the base on their own.
If the pen is full, equip the pet on the spot or sell a cheap one first. A full pen is why a fresh parrot "made no money" in one run.

These are single runs. Farther eggs tended to take longer, but the number on your egg is the one that matters.
Whether the countdown keeps ticking while you are offline is not stated. Pets are described as earning offline once they are placed. An unfinished egg should be checked when you log back in.
Robux skip
Placed eggs can show Hatch with Robux. The only price that was visible was 9 Robux on a 10-minute fat penguin egg. The same button was used on a 26-minute egg without the price being shown that time. Waiting is the free route.
What comes out
The shell is a hint, not a contract. A penguin-looking egg hatched a seal. A monkey-looking egg did hatch a monkey. One open produced two pets, one of them golden. Labels seen on results include golden, rainbow, diamond, silver, silver crystal, Epic, Legendary, and Mythic.
A Phoenix egg label was spoken in play and was not shown hatching, so it is not in the confirmed egg list. Cheetah is on the confirmed egg list because a yellow patterned egg in the mid-map stretch was tied to a rainbow jaguar at 1,000 per second.
